Wait

It feels like years since I’ve shot. Taking Rhyddian in hand, I step up to the line.

And wait.

Everybody waits.

Captain Will has blown the whistle but everyone is standing, bows in hand, like a grove of lemons.

‘You can shoot you know,’ he says.

‘Yeah, but nobody wants to go first,’ Jodie calls back.

We all do it together, or as together as we can.

First shot.

‘You call that a shot? Look at them all. They’re below the target.’

Try again. Try, try, try… Or you’re never going to catch that fly!
